NFL franchise tag tracker: Which players are being kept out of free agency in 2020?

NFL teams have already begun to make their moves to keep top players from hitting free agency.

With the league's window for applying the franchise tag to players closing at noon on Monday, several franchises have already made their plans known. Utilizing the designation permits the team to retain a player's rights on a one-year deal, though the two sides have until July 15 to agree to a multi-year contract. Players on the non-exclusive franchise tag can still be signed by another organization, but the team that used the tag can match any offer sheet or receive two first-round picks from the franchise if it chooses not to match.

Stay with USA TODAY Sports for the latest news on the players who have received the tag.

Which NFL players have received the franchise tag in 2020?

Shaquil Barrett, OLB, Tampa Bay Buccaneers: After leading the NFL with 19 1/2 sacks in a breakout campaign, Barrett has received the franchise tag from the Bucs.

Kenyan Drake, RB, Arizona Cardinals (transition tag): Following his midseason trade to Arizona, Drake broke out by averaging 5.2 yards per carry in his eight games with the Cardinals.

Bud Dupree, OLB, Pittsburgh Steelers: The No. 22 pick in the 2015 NFL draft notched a career-best 11 1/2 sacks last season.

A.J. Green, WR, Cincinnati Bengals: Despite missing all of last season, Green is expected to figure prominently into Cincinnati's plans, which likely center on projected No. 1 NFL draft pick Joe Burrow.

Anthony Harris, S, Minnesota Vikings: Harris tied for the league lead in interceptions with six in 2019.

RB Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans: With QB Ryan Tannehill having agreed to a multi-year deal, the Titans turned their focus to the NFL leading rusher by placing the tag on him.

Hunter Henry, TE, Los Angeles Chargers: Henry received the tag on Friday after he bounced back from missing all of the 2018 season by recording 55 catches for 652 yards and five touchdowns last year.

Chris Jones, DT, Kansas City Chiefs: The defending champions made the move many expected after the Pro Bowl pick recorded 31 sacks in the last three years.

Matthew Judon, OLB, Baltimore Ravens: The Ravens officially announced on Friday that they had applied the tag to Judon, who led the team in 2019 with 9 1/2 sacks.

Yannick Ngakoue, DE, Jacksonville Jaguars: The pass rusher said he wants to move on from Jacksonville, but the Jaguars announced Friday they had applied the tag to him, keeping him off the open market.

Dak Prescott, QB, Dallas Cowboys: Jerry and Stephen Jones have made it known they won't let their star signal-caller hit the market and still hope to get a long-term deal done.

Justin Simmons, S, Denver Broncos: Simmons, who recorded four interceptions last season, received the tag on Friday, the team announced.

Brandon Scherff, G, Washington Redskins: Scherff was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2015 draft and he has turned into a three-time Pro Bowler with 65 starts since then. An injury limited him to 11 games last year.

Joe Thuney, G, New England Patriots: In somewhat of a surprise move, the Patriots elected to use the tag on Thuney, though he could be a candidate for a trade.

Leonard Williams, DE, New York Giants: Dave Gettleman's midseason trade acquisition won't be hitting free agency, despite the No. 6 pick in the 2015 NFL draft only recording 1/2 sack and two tackles for loss last season.
