Jodie Foster talks Aaron Rodgers, Shailene Woodley (and Packers) to Kimmel, but plays it coy about their engagement
Jimmy Kimmel tried his best Thursday night to get to the bottom of the Aaron Rodgers and Shailene Woodley surprise engagement news but he got little help from Jodie Foster.
The Oscar-winning actress and well-known Packers fan was a guest on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to talk about her Golden Globe-nominated role in legal drama "The Mauritanian," which co-stars Woodley, but talk quickly turned to Rodgers.
"Come on," Foster said, laughing, before Kimmel was even able to get through his first pitch and it was clear Foster knew where it was all headed.
Kimmel played a partial clip of Rodgers' MVP acceptance speech Feb. 6 during "NFL Honors," the NFL's annual awards show, in which he casually dropped his "I got engaged" news and included Foster in a long list of people he thanked as part of "my team off the field."
Foster said she doesn't know Rodgers.
"He just knows I'm his biggest fan," she said.
But she was giddy over getting the name-drop in his speech.
"You see, he said 'my team.' Even though he said 'off the field,' that makes me a Green Bay Packer," Foster told Kimmel. "People keep saying to me, 'No, Jodie, that does not mean you're part of the team,' but it does mean I'm part of the team."
Kimmel pressed Foster about the coincidence of Woodley being her co-star and Rodgers thanking Foster in the speech — a speech, by the way, in which he didn't even mention Woodley by name, simply saying "my fiancee."
"I don't know if that's a coincidence ..." Foster coyly said, but she and Woodley did spend a lot of time together in an air-conditioned tent on the set of "The Mauritanian," "talking about our lives, you know, recipes and people we hate and things like that."
"And the Green Bay Packers ..." Kimmel said.
"And the Green Bay Packers somehow came up," Foster joked.
When news broke that Woodley was Rodgers' fiancee, there was speculation about whether Foster was the one who had introduced them.
Kimmel asked her if she wins the Golden Globe on Feb. 28 for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, will she mention Rodgers in her speech? "Absolutely," Foster said. "I may have to do the whole team maybe. Davante Adams has to be in there somewhere."
Rodgers and Woodley have yet to talk publicly about their relationship. E! News reported the two spent Valentine's Day together in Montreal, Canada, where she is filming "Misanthrope."
